Oh Beautiful Summertime!

Finally, the time has come..  the time to get stung by wasps and bitten by mosquitos.. the time to get baked by the scorching sun and become crispy golden! To compete with the flies for the lemonade..  It's vacation time!

3.5 weeks of an (almost) empty schedule beside spontanous daytrips.. oh joy, summer is finally here for me to enjoy!

So, what's been hot on the blogs this week.. well, lets see..  lets start with Mel Gibson. Apparently, someone released at least 5 tapes where the former action hero makes death threats towards his ex-wife, where he admits to have punched her, and mr Gibson doesn't stop there.. he also spews anti-semetic, homophobic and racial remarks on those tapes. Will he be able to get back into the movie industry ever again? Don't know. Time will tell.

Moving on, as I posted a few days ago, BP has photoshopped several of their photos on their official website. BP have confessed to this although blames an overzealous photograph for the doctoring. John Aravosis from americablog.com was the blogger who blew the whistle about the edited photographs, and Washington Post picked up on his story.

BP photoshopped photos

John and Joe from americablog.com have discovered that BP have doctored photographs on their offical webpage from their Crisis Command Center in Houston, TX, as information to their emergency response after the oil spil. Apparently, BP replaced empty, off-line screens with images from ROVs (remote operated vehicles) in a very sloppy way. For example, white fringes and outlines around a man in the controlroom and around the replaced monitor screen can clearly be seen. Also, BP claimed that the photograph was taken in July 2010. However, the photographs metadata showed that the picture was taken in 2001.

70,000 blogs shut down

Blogetry.com, home to about 70,000 users, was shut down last week. Blogetry.com's host, Burst.net, decided to pull the plug on the site after getting an urgent request from the FBI. The reason for the immediate discontinuing of Blogetry's service was initially unknown or very sketchy, some speculating about copyright infringements, and there was no prior warning  given from Burst.net to to the user(s) of the page(s) that was in violation of the User Agreement.

A few days ago though, further information from Burst.net was released listing that the reason for shutting down Blogetry.com was that terrorist material was hosted on the site, including manuals on how to make bombs and also supposedly  an al-Qaeda hitlist naming targets to be eliminated.

Ready to get pumped?

I'm not a health nut. No, I'm definitely not a health nut, you know, one of those guys who's spend 90% of their awake time in a gym, pumping iron and use all kind of obscure machines to keep their bodies fit, eat nothing more than perfectly measured diets ect ect.

What I do like though, is to keep my body in shape in a more friendly and laid-back way; I run about 2.5 miles every second day, I do pushups and I do situps. And I do hate those products so tooted by commercials, those contraptions that promise to keep your body slim and beutiful with nothing but wearing it, then sit down, for example, in front of the TV and let the thing do it's work..  what's the point with those product? Strapping a belt around your belly and have it contract your muscles while you're sitting in front of the TV and still promise that you'll develop a great body and get toned into fitness by it? A 30 minute walk would give better results than using such a gadget..  there's a whole lot more to fitness than shaping muscles by electrical stimuli; what about the rest of the body? What about the cardiovascular system that plays no little role when it comes to fitness?

For example, take this lady..  (s)he really know how to take her training seriously!

What drives me to blog?

I've had a few people ask me what motivates me to blog. Well, the reason is both easy and complex to answer. The easy answer would be "Cause I have an opinion and everybody else does". And of course, there's the patented answer: "Because I can".

My interests are broad and very diverse, and I like to move between different topics; I don't like to nail myself down and niche myself into some particular speciality.

Farnborough airshow opens today

If someone is even remotely interested in aviation (and I'm a fair bit lot more interested in it), they have probably heard about the city of Farnborough in the south part of England and their annual airshow, the Farnborough International Airshow. It's the airshow where the big boys play, and this year, there's bound to be a showdown in attracting potential buyers between Boeings new 787 Dreamliner versus Airbus new military transport plane the A400M. This years airshow will be even bigger than the previous 61 years, with a total exhibition space of 110,000 square meters of floor, 1,400 exhibitors expecting around 150,000 visitors.

During last years airshow, a total of $88.7 billion worth of orders were placed. Naturally they're hoping to break even higher than that during this years exhibition.

Not surprisingly, the hot topic in the Swedish blogoshere this week has been the resignation of the the Swedish Minister of Employment, Sven-Otto Littorin. The reason given for the resignation was because of a tough seperation and custody process, and because of being hunted by media in its wake, Littorin stated that personal issues was more important than his role as Minister of Employment. However, a few days later, it was revealed that the allegedly true reason behind his resignation came just the next morning after an evening newspaper found that Littorin purchased sex from a prositute. This has been strongly denied though, and the newspaper who came with the allegations have been sued. Could be damaging for the sitting government, considering that it's election year.

14 days with Drupal

A short comment on changing from Wordpress to Drupal..

I've been using Drupal for 14 days now after giving it a try instead of using Wordpress..  and I must say that I'm not regretting anything. Drupal is a robust and extremley scalable CMS. It's not, however, very easy to setup and maintain which might be daunting for some bloggers, however, give it some time and affection and it'll certainly grow on you; and it'll also grow with you!

For you who doesn't know what Drupal is and don't want a few hours worth of a lecture, you can get a basic idea in just 57 secs!
